Solar is Future for Schools
National Solar Schools Program (NSSP)

Here Comes the Sun

Solar power and energy efficiency measures are at the top of the political agendas in many countries worldwide. One example is Australia: In July 2008, the Australian Government started the National Solar Schools Program. Australian primary and secondary schools can apply for funding when taking important steps toward climate protection.

In particular, schools installing solar power systems, rainwater tanks, or wind energy systems will be offered grants of up to $50,000. Schools installing a solar PV system have further the possibility to sell back their electricity produced on weekends or during school holidays.

But what are the goals and the benefits of the The National Solar Schools Program (NSSP)?

  • Schools will cut their CO2 emissions
  • Schools will be able to produce their own electricity from renewable sources
  • Schools will improve their energy efficiency
  • Schools will reduce their energy costs
  • Schools will actively battle the climate change
  • Schools will set the pattern for other institutions in their communities
  • Show the community the advantages of renewable energy.
